SNOW DOGS (2002) **1/2 Waaal, you know.the Michael Bolton soundtrack weighs it down a little bit, an' the climax is dental surgery on a dog. But there's worse things than that an' some people might like 'em! I don't, but I do like dog movies and this one has some mighty fine mammals. Nothing more than some scenes-my daughter declared the final scene of peril the single most unnecessary scene she'd ever seen in her young life-glued.kind of more misapplied to the standard Disney formula. Which is a fine formula by the way, though, designed and near fool-proof to make you feel good. And I like dogs. It's about James Coburn's last ride, but he's still kickin' mighty hard. He looks alright, he looks good but you can see his body's movin' off on him. They never quite figure out how to deploy Cuba Gooding Jr. here, never give him much of scenes or lines to work with. The meet/smile/kiss romance with Joanna Bacalso actually kind of had some promise, I thought. Girl looks soft but can play it tough, somebody put her in an Indiana Jones movie! It's not a great film, or maybe even a decent one for grown-ups, but kids really like it and I think it's funny in a lot of ways. I like the dogs.
