SPACECAMP (1986) * Make no mistake about it (as if you could): this is a really bad movie. But it doesn't make you nauseous, and it's not morally depraved and you don't just want to hide in the face of the cosmos just because a member of your species is acting like this.well, serious actors might, but the rest of us will get by. Anyway, if you don't mind being really bored and won't get offended if your intelligence is mocked every 20 seconds, then this might be just the film for you! It's certainly not saved by familiar faces but there are a bunch of 'em anyway. Kate Capshaw looks like this is exactly what she deserves, yet she makes it somehow worse anyway. Kelly Preston is apparently oblivious to the putridity of the spectacle, which doesn't exactly save it but at least assures you that happy enough life can be sustained in that environment. Lea Thompson occasionally appears like she senses that the film might somehow be.ahem! even better. Then there's Tom Skerritt. What the hell is he doing in something like this? Not that he obviously deserves better, just that because of other performances we know that he does. Truth is, by running around acting all serious, and looking like he's taking it all seriously and he's really really into it.he looks like the most idiot one of the whole damn lot. The writers should have their licenses revoked without possibility of parole. I have to admit that it does look kind of fun and scary in outer space, though. Of course that's hardly a revelation.
