SUGARFOOT (1951) ** Randolph Scott gets shot in the left side of his chest, and they shave him (face) and he gets better! I like that, but am torn between being impressed by him or the guy who shaved him....musta been a mystic. It must have been nice making movies for undemanding audiences back in them days...it's just a cowboyish yarn, with not as much or real dramatic shootin', but very well meanin' an' all... Here's something about cinematic magic: Very early on they say that they're in Prescott, Arizona, and they very obviously aren't in Prescott, Arizona, but it's my wife's hometown, so we get more interested in the movie! Not a real story, not in the real place that it's about, so the real people get subsumed into the multiple layers of fiction, and are grateful for the reference! ...and don't even mind when it gets a little dull because it's supposed to be happenin' in Prescott, it's kind of about us! Now there IS one major, entirely unintentional mystery throughout, so if you don't like spoilers don't read this next line: the reason that the guy who's supposed to be a Spanish/Mexican aristocrat speaks with a German accent is because the actor playing him was born in 19th century Austria-Hungary.
