SUPER ERUPTION (2011) **1/2 I went in harboring some, some, hope that there might be something super about Super Eruption. Those hopes hinged entirely on director Matt Codd, whose B-movie brilliance was unavoidable, entirely and fully in evidence, throughout Epoch, but nothing else. It's not in evidence here, either. It's a fun and watchable and enjoyable movie, for its kind particularly, but for any kind, and it he pulls some nice strings but it just never goes anywhere near that...stratosphere...of playful absurdity. It is instead carried by Juliet Aubrey, fun and admirable, and capable of histrionics that are never quite supported by anything going on around her. But she is, though, credible in the center of the film, and particularly in the incredible paradox that somehow serves as both centerpiece and sideshow. That might not have been great acting, but it was important and it's a far lesser film without it. What if Yellowstone really did blow up? Hopefully this will keep the idiots out of it, the way Jaws did with the beach, so the cool people can have their space and enjoy it more.
