TOM BROWN'S SCHOOL DAYS (1940) *1/2 I read the Classic Comic Book of this! (ok, I never read the real thing). But I don't remember it being almost entirely about bullying. Perverse units might find something here, corporate legal departments and such, but it has nothing on the glory of the comic. Did they miss the point, or just try and make a bigger-maybe more personal-one? I don't know, or care much. It's a dreary film. It is tragic to consider the possibility that generations of British men were raised like this, but does much to explain South Africa and India, I guess. weep, yawn. In the comic book version the teachers were way better developed, they were cool, they made it happen, that was better.
