ZOMBIELAND (2009) *** The greatest zombie movie ever. It is a fine and wonderful thing to imagine a culture in which young men are required to view this before the age of 17, as a rite of passage. It is funny, it is gory, it is full of humanity...well kind of, I mean, I guess most of 'em are zombies but there are some humans, too. Woody Harrelson redeems all of redneck-kind, forever. The final coup de grace for those of us who have long argued that Bill Murray belongs in the highest, most central ring of the pantheon of Hollywood greats. Perhaps the greatest poet of the 20th century, James Douglas Morrison, once wrote "out here on the perimeter...we is stoned...immaculate." Turns out the perimeter is Bill Murray's house. I love carnivals, I have probably been to 100 carnivals, carnivals were one of the greatest joys of my youth, carnivals,....I have never had as much fun at a carnival as Woody Harrelson. The musical selections come fast and furious, mainly fast, and are so perfectly placed that I just knew that Joel Schumacher had something to do with it, but if so it was only influence as he is not credited. Never mind that, there might be a zombie right behind ya, comin' up to eat ya, aieeeeeee! Emma Stone is so great as the good girl bad enough that that's not going to bother her much. The goodness is largely submerged, maybe even theoretical, you see. But you know it's there, or she's good enough to fool you of its existence in its absence. Look out, another one! aieeeee!! This is a really fucking fun movie. And gruesome. Yuck!
