DRIVING APHRODITE (2009) ** If you like Greece, there's plenty of it to look at. If you like Richard Dreyfus, it's a nice role for him. If you really liked My Big Fat Greek Wedding , and think it's going to be like that because it's kind of about Greece and Nia Valdalos is in it, that's not going to work. It's a nice modest movie, my only real problem with it being that when they decide to wrap it up-the last half hour or so-they assume this crescendo like they think they're wrapping up Titanic or Love Story or something, and not that the end is any good really (wheels just fell off, for me), but the ambition and scope of what they seem to think they're concluding just dwarfs everything that's come before to the point of near nullification. So it's not a Greek tragedy in either sense-literal or aesthetic-but it doesn't fit together, which is very important when there's no particular selling point in the first place.
