HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART I (2010) ** My sense of the Harry Potter books-and I've only read about 30 pages total from a few different ones, to my children, so I'm not trying to sound like an expert--and J. K. Rowling has done more than anyone since Charles Dickens to popularize the joy of reading and making it cool, so I'm not trying to sound condescending...my sense is that her strength as a writer is to introduce a lot of interesting ideas and situations, with the characters themselves so appealing because of the way they move amongst such things. If that's right, this film reflects it. The action scenes are very cool, things bog down a little when personal relationships are explored or at least lingered on and...it has Dobbit in it! My all time favorite Potter character. Yeah, I know his real name is something else, but my kids love to correct me. So if this had been the first Potter film I might have been a little disappointed, but seven films into the franchise I'm happy to enjoy it for what it is. For me, it's kind of like a family reunion, except that the characters are more sane and sensible. :)
