NOTHING SACRED (1937) ** It seems that so much has changed about the world, everything except for the public's perception of the media. Of course in those days even the tabloids were different, sensationalist yes but more into sensationalism for its own sake, even if not prurient. Everyone, apparently, wanted to do a good deed, and it was enough if they collectively did a small one. I know that Carole Lombard can be a big deal, but she isn't in this one and neither is Fredric March. There's really nothing about them at all, which is, paradoxically, both good and bad. You wouldn't mind there being more, but it's not difficult to imagine it being worse. They brush away the big issues, merrily and without engaging them, give you a wink and hope you'll think it's worth an hour or so in the afternoon. I don't know.
