SPACE BUDDIES (2009) *1/2 Talking dogs in space. Love the premise. These dogs...these dogs talk an awful lot but don't have so much to say. It all somehow takes on the ambience of an office party. Dogs in space should not be such a contradiction in terms. I understand that the target group is little ones even less cultured than myself, but if the dogs encounter so little difficulty conceptualizing space telemetry, wouldn't they perhaps also enjoy some certain insight into Freud? Or at least the Rolling Stones? None apparent. So they talk a lot about not much, and rely way too much on aesthetic support from the humans. Bill Fagerbakke stammers around in that way that endeared him to many on "Coach," and Ali Hillis is somewhat buoyant in ranging from aghast to perplexed but that's really about it. So if you're not automatically in on talking dog movies, this may not convert you to the genre.
