THE ARCHIES IN JUGMAN (2003) *1/2 You know what they say about trying to make cartoons out of great literature... It's surprisingly true to the blueprint, which is, in large part, why it doesn't work out as well. Those comics, that all the cool kids honed our reading skills to, took about ten minutes to romp through, learned lesson and all. This one is a bit longer, and there's (fortunately) no amplified lesson at the end. The comics were more original, though: my all-time favourite was the one where Jughead convinced the school that there was no point in teaching anything that could be looked up, which worked brilliantly until it turned out that they were still in school at dinner time because no one had known when to ring the bell, because it was something that you could look up. Nothing that profound here, just a gentle variation of the cryogenic caveman theme. Talk about perennial teenagers, that thing's been 16 even longer than they have! Gets fairly tedious, but somewhat redeems with a surprise ending. I also may be slightly older than their target audience at this point.
