ASTÉRIX CHEZ LES BRETONS (Asterix in Britain, 1986) ** Apparently the British used to drink hot water with milk, until Asterix brought them tea. There were also lots of other things to be drunk and so it's most helpful that the illustrators endow those who have imbibed with red noses, thereby saving the viewer the necessity of a scorecard. The caricatures of various nationalities, and especially the Brits, are very funny and terribly on point. Those awful Romans are trying to take over England but not if Asterix and his paunchy sidecar Obelix (my new hero, I need a t-shirt) have anything to say about it. They head up north to what was probably where Carlsberg brewed their 9.0 super strong and head off to England with a keg. Drinking and swordfights ensue, with wry commentaries by the fatalistic inhabitants of that realm, that isle, that...and hangovers all around. Very good training manual for European children.
