BEVERLY HILLS NINJA (1997) ** If the title and image of Chris Farley communing with fellow ninjas on the astral plane don't do it for you, you probably won't enjoy it much. They play to Chris' physical humor rather than getting all psychological about what a devout ninja might think of western decadence at its finest, so they may have missed something but probably nothing they could have hit. Nicolette Sheridan plays the one who gets tied up and has to be saved, which appears to stretch her dramatic skills to their limit. For reasons that are explained Chris Rock spends much of the film chasing around a chicken, which still seems like a bit of a waste. Farley is endearing, anyway, and you can't help laughing as he demands that you laugh at him. You can't laugh at the guy in a malicious way though, and you always knew that this ninja madness and the aesthetic constipation of Beverly Hills would just be window dresssing anyway.
