BRAIN TWISTERS (1991) * Ridiculous premise, abhorrent acting, ill conceived and slovenly music, alleged teenagers in contemptible fashions...what else could you possibly want? What people like the ones who made this film don't understand is that these elements are not entertaining in and of themselves. The parts must have some rapport, or plug into some mystique, or be repugnant to such a magnitude that they unilaterally attain critical mass. None of that happens here, except for in one scene. The actors are all very, very bad, but the professor and assistant cop would stand out among any cast. They would be over their heads as inarticulate cavemen. Unfortunately the powers that be saw to it that they only shared the screen for a single scene, but that single scene comes quite close to redeeming the entire endeavour. Beyond that, it can only be fun to try to figure out what overblown cliché the perpetrators were trying to prove (ok, sure, they probably didn't even have one, but let's pretend they did): Is it that video games are a dangerous thing in the minds of the young? That college students are ruining themselves with drugs? Or, probably, that no one should fund psychology experiments any more.
