CORSICA, SICILY AND SARDINIA (1996) **1/2 Ian the Aussie tramps about in this Lonely Planet pictorial essay on the region, with grating and occasionally amusing commentary passing for information. Corsica looks like the best spot to live of the three, and the locals are uninterested in maintaining superficial dialogue with Wright, which is positive. "It's like Ireland, too complicated," they pour some more wine and blow him off. Sardinia has the kind of agro-Italian thing going, but without the charm of Sicily. The Palermo Parade in honor of chasing off the black plague is very nice, but more like a Mardi Gras parade (too much) than the OB Christmas Tree Parade. The water is all beautiful, and if the residents put up with him they'll certainly put up with us. I'll not be trying the bar-b-q eel, but the red wine and pasta looks nice. Even though it's not in the title he can't help heading over to Stromboli, which looks like the most special spot of all. Except in tourist season.
