FREAKY FRIDAY (2003) **1/2 Jamie Lee Curtis and freckle-faced Lindsay Lohan inject this kiddie flick with rock sensibilities so authentic that even the Keith Richards reference doesn't feel forced. What else would you expect them to talk about? Lots of nice Santa Monica visual references (beach, promenade) to remind Industry people that they do actually live in a (rather expansive) neighborhood, peopled with real people, where real things happen. Like body switching! Yeah, yeah, I walked into that one--no, I don't recall ever going to a Chinese restaurant and having a fortune cookie turn me into anyone else, but nearly as strange things happened. But I digress. Jamie Lee and Lindsay do very nice jobs of acting like each other, Chad Michael Murray is a cool kid on a Ducati, and Mark Harmon can still act like the nice guy. There's nothing brilliant about it but it's entertaining, it never lags, and it leaves you feeling good. It may also remind parents who need it that they were once teenagers, though they're probably also the parents least likely to bother to watch it.
