FUNLAND (1988) * For the first half they try to give amusement parks the treatment, somewhere between Airplane! and Caddyshack. They never threaten to reproduce the artistic elevations of those works mind you (despite Bonnie Turner's brilliant character threatening on the periphery), but the feel is similar and the obnoxious stupidity of some of the alleged jokes admirable enough to start a smile. I honestly have no idea what they're trying to do the second half-all that I got out of it is that Robert Sacchi does a most excellent Bogey. There are failures on most fronts but the most avoidable one is that they're clearly trying to make a statement about how gross and unconventional and uninhibited they are, and they never get particularly gross, barely get anywhere near the edge of convention and conduct all proceedings with an extreme sense of self-consciousness. If you really know your television you'll be able to pick out some familiar faces, and feel sorry for them.
