THE LAST WALTZ (1978) *** The main thing that jumps out at me is look at Bob fucking Dylan dwarf everyone on stage-and there's a Beatle, a Rolling Stone, Neil Young and the Band of Honor on it! It's a loss for music that Martin Scorsese's talent was recogized and he didn't end up having to do music video. He would never have let MTV happen, not like it is. The Band was a very good band, but not one of the very greatest for me. They were damn fine musicians, and versatile; the stories from the road are great and maybe the best part is that anyone who spent 16 years on the road has some. Muddy Waters' lyrics are great, properly legend, but watch how he makes even cooler noises when he makes painting sounds. Someday I will drink a 40 ounce Mickey's from that liquor store by the Winterland.
