THE LOST CITY (1982) *1/2 There's a plane crash in South America, and the survivors stumble upon a lost civilization in the throes of the Egyptian mystery religions. But will they survive for long? After a few minutes, you won't care either. It's all very amateurishly done, but without much amateur charm: the stupid plot, the lousy actors, the silly shots. But...the costumes! The absurdist costumes and ludicrously colorful sets! Now, I'm not saying that the costumes are great, they're not. But someone went to an awful lot of trouble for them, without much of a budget. And you can tell. They're vaguely realistic, and extremely heart-felt. It's pretty cool watching them float in and out of scenes. If only there weren't any actors betraying them! Other than that it would be a good film for psychological testing on memory prioritization. Anyone who can't remember anything about this film, ten minutes later, gets high marks.
