THE MARK OF ZORRO (1974) *1/2 The Zorro myth, recreated without much action or any humour. They're faithful to the plot, at least, in an extremely plodding way. Frank Langella plays the bipolar hero as prissy and boring. There's little reason to believe that he could liberate anything. Yvonne De Carlo and Ricardo Montalban make appearances, the primary effect of which is to make you think that it might be funny if they just gave up and played out their "Addams Family" and "Fantasy Island" roles. Now, if they'd done that it just might have given Langella a more appropriate setting for his representation. The horse doesn't even have any good scenes. The best part is watching on in astonishment as Tom Lacy overstates each of his lines to an even greater degree than the previous ones.
