THE PARTY (1968) **1/2 Well, who hasn't been to a million parties like this? Some lady gets a whole baked chicken stuck in her headpiece, the toilet overflows on the second floor after someone puts ten pounds of toilet paper in it, some guy loses his shoe in the pool, the waiter is so loaded he keeps falling down on the other waiter who's trying to pick up stuff he dropped, and a sober actor from India (Peter Sellers) shoots a cowboy matinee idol in the head with a plastic dart. Fortunately the teenagers come home and liven things up with a painted elephant that Sellers demands that they wash to restore its dignity. Sellers' physical humour is second only to Jerry Lewis though infinitely more subtle, and his facials are up there with John Belushi. One of Elvis Presley's favorite movies.
