REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER (1978) **1/2 You simply can't go wrong with a few cans of film, Peter Sellers, assorted yard sale clothes and a trunk of fake beards. The "Clousseau is dead" rumours are the natural confusion that would inevitably arise from the fiery death of a hijacker transvestite at the hands of the international mob. In fact Cloussseau wears a dress for longer periods of time than in previous installments, also a Toulouse-Lautrec suit, an oriental ensemble, a peg-legged salty Swedish seadog disguise and various distinctions that defy immediate identification. So it's well worth watching. Compared to previous episodes we get a bit much Burt Kwouk and too little Herbert Lom but such complaints are trifles and the risk of making seriel sequels. In any event Dyan Cannon is a worthy addition to the line of panther girls, and the gags develop with a rapidity that enables to viewer to quickly move beyond the semi-regular almost-misfires.
