THE RIDDLE OF THE SANDS (1979) *1/2 Yet another installment, this one not fact based, in the unofficial and unending British serial "The History of Germans Behaving Badly." Credits offer up latter-day British purist all-star pairing of Jenny Agutter and Michael York but instead more Simon MacCorkindale is delivered than anything else. Agutter lights things up somewhat when she's around, but disappears for about an hour in the middle of the film. Her British-actress-pretending-to-be-a-German-girl-speaking-English-with-a-British-accent is intriguing, even good...but is that what she really is? It's the only plot that thickens as Germans are patriotically derided for being violent, boorish, stupid and wearing offensive pointy hats.
