THE ROAD WARRIOR (1981) 1/2* Guys in ridiculous S&M suits ride back and forth over a quarter square mile of Australian desert wanting gasoline. Mel Gibson stands by with an idiotic grimace on his face. A guy jumps out of a hole in the ground and several things blow up, one knocking tires all over the place. A little kid with one of the worst haircuts ever has a boomerang, lots of women bleed. Everyone bleeds and die all over the place. Dull car chases precede. No one says or does anything of any interest. Pretentiousness and homoerotic undertones abound and battle for dominance in the manner you would expect. A friend convinced me to watch this, despite my reaction to the first Mad Max adventure, claiming that this was better. It is, it's less genuinely nauseating. But not by a whole lot.
