THE RUN OF THE COUNTRY (1995) ** It's a coming of age thing where everything possible goes wrong, which is how a lot of people remember teenage life I guess. The acting is good all around, but the plot too regularly draws on soaps for my taste. Takes place in Ireland so you mix in a wee bit o' the olde countryside, and an IRA subplot and a few pints...but the script is still just too overwraught. There are some genuinely funny scenes, most revolving around Anthony Brophy, most notably the blessing of the sow.
