THE SCARLET BLADE (1963) *1/2 It's a Hammer flick so you know that there are lots of tree shots and wooden actors. Lionel Jeffries and Oliver Reed are in it, so you know it can't be too bad. Reed is really good at acting like he's been shot and falling on a table. American audiences, hell young British audiences too, may find the plot about a British Civil War confusing and little light is shed on it here. Everyone didn't like the king or something, crazy stuff. It's fair to expect a bit more from the leads and a tale of gypsies and revolutionaries, but beyond your own subjective expectations there's nothing especially wrong with it.
