SCOOBY-DOO AND THE ALIEN INVADERS (2000) *** In which the Mystery Machine is tormented by a spaceship and runs into a giant cactus. They definitely have the bit about the Arizona desert being full of characters right, I want some meatloaf from that diner! The groovy psychedelic musical love interlude is nothing short of an authentic moment in animated lore, the presence of space aliens couldn't be anything but anticlimactic after. Astounding sights abound: the aliens, Lester the alien-abducted landscape artist wearing a vest in the desert, military police brandishing but not firing their guns, Shaggy with his shirt tucked in. Purists may loathe installments in which the aliens/ghosts/vampires, etc. are "real," so the writers adopt a doubling back strategy which should more than satisfy anyone with tastes sophisticated enough to adore the talking dog in the first place. "Waliens?!"
