SCOOBY-DOO AND THE GHOUL SCHOOL (1988) 1/2* "Ah! Something's gone wrong with the formula!" Revolta got that one right at least. The Mystery Machine is the wrong colour, other than Scooby and Shaggy the gang sits this one out making way for the insufferable Scrappy-Doo (who doesn't even start any scraps), although much of the script revolves around a volleyball game the writers obviously have only the feintest ideas regarding the rules and scoring of the game, the lamest wordplay interrupts the action every 15 seconds or so...at the very obvious made-for-American-tv cuts it's all enough to make you desperately hope for a mediocre commercial. Perhaps most frustrating of all is the waste of (the voices of) Glynis Johns and Casey Kasem: when you think of all the great things that they could talk about, and then to have them shackled to this script of all things. It's more than enough to sink any but the most robust franchise.
