7 FACES OF DR. LAO (1964) **1/2 Who would have thought that Tony Randall had the versatility for such monstrous characters and ethnic dialects? I mean, he's no Richard Pryor but he doesn't have any trouble carrying the show either. My favourite is the apparently morphiated and effete Pan, but the giant serpent is also quite nice. Barbara Eden stifles so well as a librarian that you forget who she is, until she starts smoldering and emoting like Jeannie. Some girls don't need a harem suit to let you know what's going on. It's the last ride for George Pal, entertaining, visionary, and philosophical for those comfortable with contemplating the simple, good, and obvious. Which is way too few incidentally, mea culpa. Great circus sets and spectacular special effects.
