STOP! OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT (1992) ** I'm not sure if it's misguided comedy when one of the major characters is an overbearing and diminutive mother (Estelle Getty) whose primary characteristic is an uncanny ability to raise the blood pressure of those around her. Misguided effort at relaxation, anyway. Sylvester Stallone ends up in numerous shoot-outs with the bad guys, of course, but after dealing with his mother it's sheer relaxation, for him and the viewer. Stallone may have thought that his Rambo audience needed to acquire a taste for the pleasant subtleties of life, but if so it's difficult to see exactly how this might offer them. Maybe it's just his effort to make them go away! More likely he figured that they just needed to lighten up a little, and the gunfights here are to ward off withdrawals during treatment. Whichever, whatever, it's all well intentioned, and reasonably entertaining if you don't know what else to do as, obviously, I didn't.
