TARZAN GOES TO INDIA (1962) *1/2 There's a rogue elephant loose, I wonder if Tarzan will want to ride it. There's also an elephant boy, who would be a lot better if he was half-elephant, half/human. I'm thinking something with really big ears and a trunk who remembers all kinds of useless stuff, but they missed him. Jock Mahoney's (no, I don't know if that's his real name or not) interpretation of Tarzan is much more articulate than what we're used to, which somewhat limits the comedic possibilities. In fact Jock seems to be an aging Tarzan, wise to the ways of the Western world (except for hair conditioner), but still disgusted. That's hardly groundbreaking material, and doesn't make up for the fact that this version apparently can't even beat up a leopard or elephant. You'd think that the grand finale, replete with bows & arrows, dynamite, a dam and a herd of elephants would at least click, but to tell the truth it was sadly anticlimactic. I liked the guy who dances around in the bird suit.
