TEXAS ACROSS THE RIVER (1966) ** Happy sixties semicomedic cowboy farce. Alain Delon adds class as a Spanish aristocrat with a long name, and highlights the ongoing differences between the European and American senses of honour (Hah-noor, he calls it). Dean Martin looks suspiciously sober throughout, in any event the best moments are provided by Joey Bishop, rolling faces in the classic orange face and jet black fright wig Indian makeup job. There aren't a lot of hardcore belly laughs, but the snickers keep coming regularly. Wonderful sixties horn soundtrack for the lively Indians, and peppy title track from the Kingston Trio. And yes, the differences between Texas and Louisiana across the river are still as great.
