THEY GOT ME COVERED (1943) **1/2 They also served, who shook off one-liners like dandruff and made out with Dorothy Lamour. It's light, good-hearted allied propaganda fluff for a breath of fresh wit and Bob Hope is tremendous. "I am," he says, "an acquired taste. No one likes me at first." The gags are really good, and the snappy one-liners keep coming. Unfortunately about the time it should be ending they realize there are a bunch of loose plot lines that have to be tied up. Why does the tv guide say this is rated "R"? Must be that people like Tipper Gore and Dick Cheney are offended by the portrayal of the Gestapo as a secret police organization in furtherance of fascist world domination, and bad. Or maybe it's that Bob Hope smokes some really wicked weed that has him hallucinating on the Andrews Sisters. Or maybe the tv guide people are. Um...cheers!
