THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (1967) *** Which seeks to answer, or at least raise, the all important question: Who's cuter, Julie Andrews or Mary Tyler Moore? The cast consensus seems to be Mary, at least for most of the film, but I have to file a dissenting opinion. It must be admitted, at least, that Mary sports a very nice hair-do. All of the fashions are great, or at least interesting, at least funny. White slavery is a fine topic for a comedy in the days before political correctness, now they'd have to at least mix in a honkey or two with all those rogue Chinamen out to get all the white women for themselves! Carol Channing is exactly what you'd want her to be, exactly what she's supposed to be, some myths are important even without representation in the "real" world. Speaking of the real world, "it didn't do any harm to Snow White or Sleeping Beauty." George Roy Hill wisdom for the ages, like a Hallmark card except witty and deep(er).
