TIME WARP (1981) ** Low brow sci-fi whose primary special effect is presenting Adam West, not in his batsuit. Substandard acting, no plot to speak of, a lead actor despairing and desperately trying for that affected flippance that once passed for charm, inexplicably telephathic birds; the best scene is a seance gone wrong, and even it is a series of missed chances. But outside the film time passes smoothly enough. On a lazy afternoon it may suffice to laugh at West trying to put the moves on some dull witted woman, or to think of a demented astronaut cheating a computer at poker in space. Gratuitous mockery of the overtly religious comes across more as sci-fi boilerplate than mean-spirited, and in any event there's certainly no reason to get defensive when the film's contributors clearly comprehend so little.
