TORNADO WARNING (2002) *1/2 Tornados are so cool, how come all these tornado flicks are so pedestrian? It's not so much that I mind the dull characters, I understand that corporate sponsors think that everyone in Oklahoma is like that, but when they have at least enough money for computer graphics how can they not actually show Sheriff Joan Van Ark flying around in the funnel with her Cadillac? She's probably not even the worst actor of the lot, which still doesn't mean that, all in all, it's as dumb as that pathetic tv show she used to be on. But competitive, how about the scene where the cop is right on the grad student's ass (in an enormous van), then suddenly the kid hides in the bushes and the cop goes past. Dumb Okie cops I'm more than willing to believe-but are they asking us to believe blind Okie cops or warp speed science vans? Inquiring minds want to know, if only because it's way more interesting than the stuff they're trying to attract our attention to. So let's see...incompetent ugly cast, dull and senseless script, trivialization of fascinating scientific phenomenon, senseless waste of time and nonexistent production standards...it's about exactly what they were shooting for, and probably better than what's on most of the other channels. But if you pitched the same script with vampires or werewolves jumping out they'd say that it was stupid or unbelievable.
