UNE FEMME OU DEUX (A Woman or Two; One Woman or Two, 1985) *1/2 This is what we have to look forward to when the international film industry is homogenized: nice, dull, predictable, brief nudity at 45 minute intervals. It's the worst film that either Gerard Depardieu or Sigourney Weaver have ever done. What's the worst that Dr. Ruth Westheimer's ever done I won't conjecture. The stars both turn in very professionally competent jobs, but what either of them ever saw in the script must have been in the contract. Their amorous chemistry is...isn't. You can almost see her thinking "ok, cute lip curl #9, now go into eye roll left overlap, and kiss." He's almost as cute but no more convincing, only showing hints of the Gallic fire of which he's capable in the press conference scene where he's accused of, among other things, "leftist archaeology." This film's also representative of what we're in for now that leftist archaeology has ben homogenized...the good news, I guesss, is that presumably everyone gets paid. To think that Weaver went from Ghostbusters to this in only a year...and probably thought she was getting artsy.
