THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN (1964) **1/2 I don't know how many things can interfere with true love, but apparantly one is wanting to be a Denver socialite. Debbie Reynolds has a lot of range as Molly, and her man Harve Presnell has a bunch of friends from the sticks that turn sosh parties into real ones. Among the injured... Presnell has a great vocal dexterity that allows him to give substance to a pretty weak score (naturally given an Oscar nomination) and also to twang good when he talks. The temptation is to think that Reynolds is going over the top at the very beginning then you remember the subject. All good roads lead back to Ledville, and all bad roads eventually lead to good ones though I can't believe that Molly would have approved of the airbrushed (fictitious) ending.
