WAR OF THE BUTTONS (1994) ** Coming of age in Ireland tale, which, as the rest of the world knows, means street brawls. Actually, more moore fights, with kids from the next town over. Which makes so much sense, until you realize that it's based on a French novel. Nothing too heavy, but some of the battle stratagems are nearly worthy of Alexander the Great. Nicely paced and a good cast of kids, particularly Eveanna Ryan. Makes several gentle general statements, which is somewhat surprising given that the plot is one of ongoing conflict.
