WEBS (2003) ** Ok, so a bunch of electricians fall through a portal into a parallel dimension where they're hunted like rats by these spider-vampire zombies with long fingernails...at that point you're either in or you're not. Richard Grieco strides through it all (as head electrician) with an affected pompousness, and gloves with no fingers that evoke Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club. Grieco's acting is what you'd expect, which frankly does the film little harm, and he sports a most convincing Chicago accent. He does not, however, ever request a beer, and at no point in the proceedings does he express any interest at all as to how the Cubs are doing in the spider dimension. All of which, obviously, does little to bolster the film's previously impeccable credibility. No socio-political mumbo-jumbo, no hard science, mercifully little romance, and a philosophically provocative ending that is easily discarded...this has to be someone's idea of a brilliant film.
