FLIPPER (1996) ** I'd probably give at least as good a rating to 90 minutes of dolphin shots, but there is a point to having Paul Hogan (as "the hippie") and Isaac Hayes (the "boat cop") in the same frame. Hogan's character is drawn with a lot of pizzazz and if he never really gets going it can be because characters like his never really get going. You have to take that there's a plot on faith, and exercise forgiveness for the ultra-light treatment of heavy issues (Flipper recovers from toxic poisoning overnight). The kid actors aren't good, but the guy has a great selection of Smashing Pumpkins t-shirts. It doesn't have much point and it doesn't go anywhere but the water is beautiful, and I really like dolphins.
