GUNFIGHT AT THE O.K. CORRAL (1957) **1/2 Besides one of the greatest names in the history of film this one offers up an excellent performance by Kirk Douglas as Doc Holliday, the gamblin' man who throws back shots like they orange juice. It's nice to think that the guy who wrote this (Leon Uris) eventually grew into Exodus and Trinity . There are lots of recognizeable people around the periphery (Deforest Kelley, Dennis Hopper) getting shot. Lee Van Cleef gets gunned down very early in the going, which is fine because he looks like rat anyway. Douglas and Burt Lancaster (Wyatt Earp, how can anyone say "The Earp brothers" without laughing?) do a great job of creating that macho-antagonistic-disapproval-respect buddy movie thing. The orchestrated music leaves one longing for the Spanish guitars and mission bell of a taco commercial. The gunfight itself goes on way to long, I found myself drifting off in the middle of it and thinking about boats.
