THE HORN BLOWS AT MIDNIGHT (1945) *** Bizarre and slightly wonderful metaphysical musings for the time. Jack Benny was imminently believable as confused, and Alexis Smith succeeded in significant part as what she was supposed to be; "patrician sexy" said the guy that stands around talking on TCM before they go on. I think "patrician sexy" translates into early 21st Century "she's allright, I kinda like her." Archangels, fallen angels (suffering on the hour), I don't recall the '40s being like this.
