INTO THE WEST (1992) **** Helicopter cops serving their corporate overlords against Irish gypsy trackers. See the winds of time and fate toss them all about like rose petals in the fog as the kids with a bounty on their head ride their mystical mount through IRA safehouses that know better than to open the door when someone answers "police." The script is incredible, Mike Newell....every shot is just masterful. Ciaran Fitzgerald produces what's probably the second best performance by a little kid in the history of film. The horse communicates more in a glance than ten thousand sensitivity symposiums and a like number of paint-by-numbers Hollywood films. Gabriel Byrne is perfect, all of the acting, Ellen Barkin is even believable as an Irish gypsy queen. Let's call it Irish surf music because it doesn't matter what it's called, it matters what it is.
