KARAKTER (Character, 1997) *** Well done, overtly metaphorical, dark Dutch variation on the Oedipus myth. Jan Decleir is excellent as the horrid father, and Fredja Van Huet very good as the confused hard-working son. There wasn't much sun in Rotterdam, but of course this takes place before Led Zeppelin played (brilliantly, maybe the best show of the tour) there in the summer of 1980. Lots of worthwhile social commentaries, and unorthodox camera angles.
