LAND OF THE LOST (2009) *1/2 Well yes, they are lost, so why draw our attention to it?! I don't want to help them! Hahahahaha, oh I'm so funny, too. Never particularly enthusiastic about the underlying tv show-it was ok but not a cornerstone of my youth or anything-I went in not expecting much, and got a little less than I expected. It's a cool looking film, could work well in stills, the desert landscapes with diners dropped in and such, but it never really gets going as much else. Will Ferrell is often like this, too dull, knows it and desperately flails around, but I have to admit to sometimes finding him entertaining anyway. There's nothing here that touches his work as a fake cheerleader on SNL, but the gross stuff isn't as overwhelming as it sometimes gets, either. Truth is, he doesn't even bother flailing around much. It's like, it's a film about inter-dimensional time travel, there are all kinds of monsters and aliens and dinosaurs, talking animals, space drugs, rednecks, mad scientists...but it never gets past thinking that it might be a mild diversion, at best.
