THE LITTLE VAMPIRE (2000) ** A movie for kids, not for vampire flick lovers. For example the vampires are really good at heart, just a little bit cursed and misunderstood (Richard E. Grant is elegantly intimidated as the bashful but brave patriarch-the Princess Di of vampre kings). It's the vampire-chasers who are really bad (then why do they fear crucifixes?). Lots of bits calculated to appeal to American little ones; dimwitted preoccupied parents, retaliation against bullies dwarfing the original offense, every 7-year old's dream blonde vampire poet babe (Anna Popplewell); Californians are smart but Scots are weird, etc. For all that, and the predictibility of the conclusion, there's plenty of fun scattered throughout the mix: my favorite is the dive-bombing vampire cows.
