THE LOST WORLD (1999) *1/2 Psychtopic drugs, ecosystem concerns, and living dinosaur plots-apparently Sir Doyle was a bit ahead of his time. I kind of like the way they inject the dead author's name at the beginning of the film title so that he shares the blame for what Hollywood does with his work. This one is projected as kind of like an Indiana Jones, but without Harrison Ford. Instead we get a bunch of unknowns who will certainly stay that way, and technitions who would obviously prefer shooting a National Geographic segment on Mongolia, and on which they would undoubtedly do a better job. I haven't read the Doyle, but every time the action stops and there's any effort at dialogue it's painful. Something downright odd about finding extinct species alive and then shooting 'em.
