THE LOVE LIGHT (1921) *1/2 Mary Pickford emotes nicely in this melodramatic exposition on the strains of a wartime romance between an Italian girl and a German spy posing as an American. It has a hysterical scene early on involving Father Lorenzo's lengthy blessing of the meal, dinner guests that peek, and a barnyard full of drunken animals. Eventually all the hubbub lands Mary in a convent, where the nuns' habit makes them resemble the chickens, though they aren't nearly as entertaining. Has a nice score that effortlessly evolves from violin to piano to horn.
