MALAIKA (1999) * This film is (hopefully) unique for its depiction of the African bush as overcrowded and Los Angeles as rural. Unfortunately these original themes remain undeveloped, yielding instead to formulaic gibberish about kids and poached elephants. The mom dates several losers of spectacular magnitude, one of whom ruins his alligator shoes by stepping in elephant urine, and another who falls victim to the children's prank of enticing the elephant to defecate in his jeep.
